Thanks guys! For the moment I decided to do a test with indischrot and zanzibar red (Thanks a lot for the tip). I'm very keen on zanzibar with a little bit more red and metallic effect. Might look great. Have to get all the materials for the prepwork on the car and the final product should be on the street 03/2011.
Keep in mind Zanzibar "red" is REALLY "orange" There is VERY LITTLE that is red about Zanzibar!
Arena, Cyclomen and Ruby...the BOMB in reds! Love all three of those! Cyclomen (I had forgot about it) is probably my fav, but they are all SO CLOSE!
Erkka, you really missed out on an awesome looking car... 5spd '95 GTS, ex-factory car...how could you say "no" bro?! That thing looks AWESOME! I know that was quite a few years ago...that would be one I would spend the money on to import to the US too...

I have unusual Porsche red called Amulet Red. It was a special order from Porsche. I think it was under the VW/Audi color scheme. Paint code 0U2 Y3C (may be under VW)

Cannon1000 we need WAY more pics than that link provides, come on and stop holding out on us! What a beautiful color that is. Brighter than Cycolmen, Ruby or Arena, but still towards the burgundy side with what looks like a beautiful metallic or pearl effect. Great color!

@James
I don't see a problem in customizing a color. The painter mixes them electronically and stores the composition if there might occur the necessity to repaint parts of the car.. Very common stuff over here (!?)

---> Thats why I want to go a little bit more red but in general I like the light touch. Also like the fact that hopefully the final product is neither real red nor orange and in best case also appears a little bit "gold brown" as zanzibar does. (Hard to describe but I will keep you up on this topic in winter)
@cannon - yes thats a nice color as well. It's actually a Audi color I always liked on the TT's http://www.audittcca.com/photo_gallery/amulet

Be very careful if you go with a customized color...you will never be able to get touch up paint if you run out or your paint that you get along w/ the repaint dries up (that happened to me)... Really sucks.

As for custom paint, i wouldnt worry about having it matched. When the approved sample is made the formula is recorded either by the actual paintshop but perhaps even the manufacturer such as PPG or other. They may just simply put the formula into a data base with your name and information. So I wouldnt worry about having to match in the case that you must.
A mix of Coral Red and Zanzibar Red is something I myself have considered before as well. And I must also say, Red's have never been my first choice in color for cars.
Also if your going custom, try to get a House of Kolor brochure, they always have very vibrant interesting colors. Or if your by a Lotus dealership, take a peak at all the large color panels that they typically have in the showroom, they may have a couple reds that are more to your liking.
I have found Porsche to be much more liberal with color in the 80's and 90's than they are now. I think the late 90's colors started to become a bit more muted and now they are pretty boring except for the odd color here and there. Think about all the 964's in Europe that were pastels, and vibrant pinks and greens all kinds of crazy cool stuff. Now cars all seem to be either black or white on either end and about 1000 different solvers and greys inbetween. New car color palettes are VERY BORING!

Sorry! I didn't realize Flickr hid most of my pics.
Here is a new link

I'll be parking in the Porscheplatz @ Petit Le Mans...hopefully I can park near some other red's for a better contrast. Looking at the Corvette - you can see how much darker it is.

Is it just me or do all of those "reds" look very orange?
Some others to swirl around in 'yer head:
Titian Red Metallic, LB3V
Tornado Red, LY3D
I'm partial to Tornado, but I do own a car in that color....

now, two years later, the car is in the shop and will get painted next week.
Even a new roof panel with sunroof gets inserted. (Yes I know, you guys do it the other way round)
I will keep you informed how ZANZIBAR RED looks on a 928

One Guy I ran into at a car show, where I was looking at reds to find one that is a little brighter than the usual Guards Red, who had something like a 33 Plymouth coupe with a really bright red paint job, told me that it was Porsche Guards Red. Then he told me that the trick to make it really "pop" is to paint one coat of white paint on top of the primer, then the usual number of coats of the red on top of the pure white.
You might consider that trick on the paint you have finally chosen for your 928.

I think that 82x color would best compliment the interior, though what about a non-Porsche color like Imola red on the BMW's?

[QUOTE=black944er;7922609]Thanks hilton. I know this page but the images are quite bad. I'm more or less halt between
- indisch red (guards red) (alltime sporty classic)
- karminrot (cherry red)
- ziegelrot (kiln red)
and coral red. (very keen on this one at the moment)
such a hard decision
I will be painting mine a metallic red.So far I am leaning towards Toyata Barcelona red but Chevy Crystal red met. is a strong contender. Police like any shade

Guards red is certainly an eye catching red when polished - just enough orange to please the eye.
However I do not know how it will set with your brown interior. For that I would head for the darker reds bordering on Burgundy or the ones pictured with a hint of purple. Done right you will always get more depth with darker colors. The matching of the right burgundy with the brown could be a hot combination.
In my search I would not exclude other makes. The 60s GM and Ford colors were some of the best colors ever put on cars.
