Howdy all,
Wondering a couple things off the cuff.
1) anyone ever heard of the "autobahn edition"? - After getting the car -he was right - there are some anomalies that I've not encountered - albeit I've only lurked around here - I've been waiting for "my" 928 to appear to me for a couple years.
this has two rear fog lights (option maybe) a lit 928 door sill - red lights in the doors - looks to be just aesthetic options but I've not seen anything like it before.
2) it runs and drives great , but will need the usual vacuum and cooling maintenance. Haven't taken the covers off to inspect the t-belt yet.
There is a vibration in gear only from about 2k rpm to 3k and then is smooth after - torque tube? out of gear no noise or vibrations - also I haven't driven it much yet (wanted to get the desparately needed radiator hoses and vacuume fixed first) but it seems to have smoothed out some from driving.
3) I've been restoring corvettes, chevelles and vw convertible bugs for most of my life. - Not afeared of dropping the tube and going through the car, but I wonder - what do you do after the tube is out? Can you press the bearings out yourself- need to take to a P shop? or, gulp, replace it?
4) of course the transaxle has the grindy 2nd gear, - If I take it apart (doubt thats as easy as a t-5 b&W, can I add the b&W syncros?
If not can you retrofit a 85+ tranny (provided I could actually find one)?

Then you buy another, then just one more. You fall asleep beneath them, wakeup and bang your head. That's pretty much the first stage of it, did I leave anything out?

Is this a Euro-S twin dizzy? If it is, that would explain the (ahem) "Autobahn" edition... because it would be fast as hell!

Welcome to the Austin crowd Bill! Beautiful car.
I've got a tool to extract those torque tube carriers if you need it. Been sitting in my garage waiting for someone to do the job again. I'm in southwest Austin by Oak Hill, give me a PM or e-mail.
