I believe the 928MS kit tops out at about 7psi with no intercooler option to go beyond.
Actually, there is an intercooler option for a Stage II kit: http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/32v_stage2.php

Nonetheless, I think my mind has been changed. Sounds like the Murf kit is the way to go.

You can on an S3, up to about 7 psi and high octane but they have a larger safety margin built into the stock chip then the S4's do, plus you can use the EZF octane loop if you are worried about it. I have -3 taken out of mine and an additional -3 taken out on the intake temp sensor for those heat soaked days.

Back on point, another benefit of the Murf kit is the CCW rotation of the Vortech so you don't have to have a foot long crank pulley to run the supercharger. While I have no real world data, I would think this would put additional strain on the crank.

I'm going to disagree with you on that. The S3 has no knock retard function whereas the S4+ has up to 9° retard function. The S3 IIRC only has about 3-6° of retard vs. a typical S4. You start having problems on an S3, and you have no way of knowing - no way of adjusting to compensate. At least on the S4, it will continue to retard the timing until it hits 9°.

On the 86.5 mid mount turbo install, I just connected the timing loop on the EZ with the Porken S300 chips until we can get the sharktuner back up and running. Seems to be pretty good that way. AFM is in line if not a bit rich.

Shark Tuning is the way to go on any car being boosted.

I kind of hoping I'll be happy with the Stage 1 kit as-is.

If not, then I think my next step would be more towards MegaSquirt III, since I have a fair amount of familarity with tuning MS. Of course, that's a real slippery slope, because it then becomes more interesting to swap injectors to allow for full sequential, and play around with MAP/MAF blending, and COP, and ..... ooh, MAP-controlled electronic blow off valves.

Is there a 2 stage vortec unit , (for earlier boost) or is that the unit he currently sells. Murf

My raptor was purchased 3 or 4 yrs ago and when you are in boost with any form, the gates of hell have opened and you are on your way!!!!

You will be happy with your choice for sure.

The only thing I was very unhappy with was I live in hot summers and after the sc install and taking the stock fans off and replacing with muffin fans (Murf and Carls) My car always ran hot. Ireally thought it was airflow issue.......then the water pump went south....boy did I feel stupid...

Why arent the centrifugal units made to get into boost earlier....or just place 2 cf sc units on and then have boost at 1800 rpm?

man that would be bitchin.....

How fast do you want it to be? How much money do you have? How do you feel about tire costs? Is the car in good enough mechanical shape to take the boost?

Boost is addictive, and what spins your prop nicely today will be ho-hum after a while. How big a while? No hard answer beyond "until someone passes you". The "slippery slope" moniker was coined just for boost addicts.

Andy... I'm really considering this option myself (Murf III, but I can SharkTune it since I've already got an ST2), unless you think that you might tire of your beast within a year or so, in which case I might be hanging around like a vulture ready to snap it up (think how easy it would make it for you to sell to a local!).

Since I just got done with TB/WP and top-end refresh a few months ago, I figure I'm ready to roll with boost, although I'm a little worried about the ancient head gaskets.

Don't worry about it. As long as you're not knocking they'll last just as long as if you were NA. And if they do go... it'll be a fun adventure.
