Hi, I'm a new owner and just had my car inspected. One of my high beams was out so I replaced the bulb, H4 and still no joy. Also my high beam indicator is not functional and I was wondering if the two are related or is it just a dead indicator bulb? Not looking forward to removing the pod....
Everything else works perfectly and the car has cleaned up nicely since I went to the Sharkfest in Boston last weekend.
For the no high beam condition, check that the high beam fuse for that light is good then check the wiring harness inside the fender for breaks. On my S4 there are separate fuses for low and high beam for each side (a total of four fuses). The action of the headlights going up and down often pinches the harness between the headlight mechanism and the body and causes a break in the wiring. To check the harness, remove the wheel and then remove the fender liner followed by the access panel (s).
Hope this helps.
Mike

does the Hi beam indicator light come on when you pull back the turn signal switch with the lights in the up and on position???
It could be a burned out bulb in the pod.
Do the wire harness inspection as Mike suggested the wires break where they are clamped with the metal tab just under the headlight pivot.
If you can add a bit of wire to loop then reclamp it a simple tug on the harness should be enough then test the lights up and down to check your work
Thanks much for the helpful info. I'll check the fuse(s) and harness next. Most likely the high beam indicator bulb is blown, won't come on when lights up and on and I pull back on the switch. Cheers.
Just goes to show what a newbie I am. I had no idea each beam and each light had its own fuse. Replacing the bad fuse got my left highbeam working again AND the indicator light as well. Love it.
Now my dash pod lights are acting up but I think it's the rheostat.
