Expansion tank cap
Hi,
I've just replaced my expansion tank cap (I think that the one that was there was the 27 year old original one, it was very “soft” to open and close).
I've bought this one on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-928-77...item45f38b41b8
It is a bit hard to close and open which I guess is normal for a new cap.
The problem is that tha car seems to be heating a bit more, nothing alarming but with the old one the temperature gauge was always or exactly in the middle or a little under, near the white mark, and now with the new cap it's more near the upper white mark.
Is there any reason for this to happen?
I know that our gauges are not 100% accurate, but in mine it's evident it is a little more hotter.
Is this related with the new cap or just a coincidence? Should I try to replace it again with the old one just to confirm?
TIA for your answers.
Regards

If it's 1 bar, it should be okay. In any case, it should not affect operating temperature that much, unless it's completely gone.
It's not OEM (not behru or berhu or whatever way it's spelled), that's sure, and it's an important part. If you overfill a bit and overheat a bit, and if the cap does not open when it's supposed to, you may burst a hose and risk a silly crash (not to mention a seized engine):

It's not an agreed knowledge, but my opinion is: if you drive slowly, keep the soft cap. If you drive aggressively and have recently renewed hoses and radiator, keep the hard one.
Hey, in rennlist scale we're almost neighbors.

Hi,
You're absolutely right, almost neighbours lol!!
Thanks for you answer.
The cap is 1BAR, I usually don't drive very hard but of course sometimes I like to feel the power of our v8's lol!
For now I keep the new one and stay alert to the temp gauge, if it insists in going hotter, I'll return to the old one or buy a "real" cap, Beru I think!
Thanks again, neighbour
