You got me there Erik - my brain wasn't thinking along those lines.

Looks like the first hemi's might have been around for a while before Chrysler's implementation though.

Early 911s are enough of a Hemi that with the high compression domed pistons you need to twin plug them to get the fire on both sides of the head......just as Chrysler did with the new "hemi" .They had to for emissions and clean burn.

Chrysler realized this as well back in the late 1960's and offered a twin-plug HEMI head for various stages of competition (pic below [MOPAR ENGINES; pg.407])

Still, given the definition of what most people believe to be a HEMI: "a 90-degree V8 engine with opposing intake & exhaust valves and the spark plugs being centrally located within a semi-hemisperical combustion chamber"... then the 928S4/GT/GTS engines are at the very least that of a DOHC Hemi design.

Right?
