Aiming for 320rwhp with my 86.5
I have been doing some upgrades to my 86.5 5 speed to help with power output. I added the x-pipe last year and it made 295rwhp. I did not dyno it when it was completely stock but I kind of wish I had so I would know how much gain I got from it. Since I was on the dyno I have added porken's s300s chips, installed a rmb and deleated the air pump. I also plan on installing a set of cooling fans from a s4 to elimate my belt driven fan. As I am aiming for 320 rwhp. my estimates for these mods are, 295 + 5hp for air pump and fan delete + 5hp for rmb and + 15hp for the s300s chips. When I get the results I will post them and we'll see how close my "guesstimate" is. If anybody has done any specific dyno test to see how much is gained for air pump and fan delete and for the rmb I would be interested in the results.

Thanks for posting this. I would be interested in the gains associated with the RMB. I was (am) under the impression that the RMB was just a weight saver, no horsepower gains associated.
I would be very interested if your dyno runs proves this wrong.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you're going to come in at under 310 rwhp. I hope I'm wrong.
I dynoed at 291rwhp with crossovers installed and the air pump deleted, and AA chips. Since then I've installed Ken's s300s racer chips and I'm going back on 9/28 to see where I'm at.
Since I've got the '85 2-into-1-into-2 cat back exhaust I don't expect to show as much HP as an 86.5 could, but I'm hoping for over 300rwhp.
Matt,
As mentioned, with crossovers and some tuning, 295rwhp is not impossible for an S3.

Hi
The pump delete and fans are worth maybe 1 - 2 hp max and the RMB nothing at all, been there..done both...
X-pipes roughly 10 -15 depending on type and thats assuming Cat removal as well as the X.
The chips will add hp assuming they are good ones....but no 320 rwhp I am afraid....
All the best Brett

The 295 is rwhp. I thought the number was high as well but a guy with a stock 2006 corvette did a base line run right after me and he made 327rwhp and that car is rated at 400hp from GM so I think the dyno was giving good no's.

A cold air intake will help.
Our local tech has R&D a custom set up and its dyno proven for a 10 RWHP gain .....
New cams and porting the heads will help.
The pic is of a S2 but the CAI can be fabricated for a S3 just as well.

Excellent point...usually im the guy with that response.
Well..without porting, cams...just with a healthy engine, no outstanding issues, and all of the available bolt-on kit on hand...not including S/C, Turbo options.
At some point..you gotta do 'interesting' things to get more out of anything

In my 951, I have over 400rwhp out of a 4cyl. The difference, I love the ride of my 928 for trips and so does the wife, but for performance, the 951 is for me.
This is my opinion and my opinion only. Please no childish romps.

Get a set of Ford Taurus of Contour/Mystique V6 rdiator fans. They are pretty much a drop in for the 928 radiator. Much cheaper than the S4 units and are dime a dozen at any junkyard.
Nice to see another early 32V 928 in the KW area. If you ever want to see what a supercharger can do, drop by. I'll have Ted here too so we can finally go heads up and see if the Vortech is faster than the Paxton!
