Driving my GT with a Constantine refreshed torque tube
#16
Hearing about Constantine from Jim made me want to deal with him in the future. I think I know where I will be going for my 924 and 944 when it's torque tube time in the near future
Constantine if i wish to press my own bearings out and in do you sell them individually?
After working on that torque tube I'm jealous. I wish my 944 was a less of a pain in the butt.
For what it's worth, those bearings were gliding butter smooth. It was night and day, the old tube was definitely a wonderfully grinding/noisy SOB. You couldn't hardly hear the new one turn. Very impressive. Mine currently sounds like ballbearings in a folgers coffee can, i'll be in contact soon, LOL.

Yes, all Super Bearings can be purchased and installed by DIYers in their own TT. But there is a bit of a learning curve to doing a TT rebuild, especially a 944TT.
Nice avatar by the way.

Having seen a stock bearing side-by-side with one of Constantine's Super Bearings, I can say that there is no way the stock bearings would ever be as good of the Super Bearing. Not kissing *** or anything, but you really need to see the 2 bearings side-by-side to understand how easy it is for me to say this. The size and build quality of the Super Bearing makes the stock bearing look like a Ford Model-T part. They are indeed totally different. Remember, as with the stock belt tensioner, not all of Porsches ideas were exactly perfect. The same basic TT bearings were used from '78 thru '95 even though HP nearly doubled.
Constantine, please post a side-by-side picture of a stock bearing next to the Super Bearing.

Hi David,
Here is a comparison shot as requested.
Thank you and others for all the kind words on these, it makes it worth it to know 928 owners appreciate the investment to get these done!
I'm sure other makers of parts for our 928s feel the same when it's there turn to be lauded for their efforts.

Everything about the super bearings is bigger and better.Constantine rebuilt my torque tube also and no more hippy hippy shakes.I took it out to Lime Rock for a PCA DE and thrashed the hell out of the car and it is still as smooth as glass as a daily driver.
Black Sea R&D Super Bearings,There is no substitute!

It is pretty amazing that 2 Achille's heels and one major annoyance for these cars has been solved some 30+ years after the car was introduced. What a hell of a community!

Jim,
Could you feel most of the vibration at higher RPMS in your right foot?
I'm getting that in the GTS right now. Almost feels like bad motor mounts, but we did mine about a year and a half ago, so no problem there.

I didn't notice much until 5000 rpm and then it was like flipping a switch. The shift lever began to vibrate and I could not hold it still. I felt the entire car vibrate. It went away when the rpm dropped back below 5000. If I depressed the clutch and let off the throttle at 5000 the vibration would slowly go away as the rpms dropped. If the car was stopped and I reved to 5000 with clutch engaged it would vibrate. With the clutch "in" I could rev with no vibration. Now that I have new bearings I realize that there was some vibration at low rpm, but not enough to concern me.

Thx Jim,
The car was off the road while I was doing some center console work, wonder if the tires are slightly flat spotted. (3months of sitting?)
Looked at a few other threads that narrow down to trans mounts and CV joints as well.
