Default Borla Mufflers on an S4

I've always liked the sound of Borla mufflers on various vehicles [928 OB's included]. Has anyone run Borla mufflers on an S4 w/ an RMB? I'm curious how this sounds... too loud?

...just a thought

I was thinking along the lines of the Turbo series. I had originally planned to go with the XR1's for the 16v build [which is on hold at this point].

Dual 3" XR-1's. Sportsman, not the multi-core race mufflers.

Since I don't have a cross-over, the car sounds like four angry Harley's with open pipes, speeding in formation.

I'll probably have to add a cross-over and possibly a rear muffler to appease the neighborhood.

Yours sounds like the mount of one of the Four Horsemen.
It is one of the best sounding 928's I have ever heard, might be a bitch to live with, but sounds so sweet coming into a parking lot.

A near stock 928 is going to sound nothing like this car does, regardless of the exhaust system that is on it.

Interesting.

Do you have the multi-core race mufflers or the sportsman single core mufflers?

I assume that you have an x-pipe there or some other cross-over that is going to help both with the sound volume and quality. I don't have a cross-over, and I desperately need one, not for power but to change the sound. Some of the guys really, really like the sound of my car as it is now, so this is a matter of taste, of course. It sounds mean now, all business, about as subtle as a hammer in a bar fight. I'd like it quieter and smoother.

I was thinking about grabbing a pair of Borla Turbo offset/offset Turbo series mufflers as a direct replacement for the OEMs. [Part #400237]. That, coupled with an RMB might sound pretty interesting.

If I were to do a NA exhaust from Borla mufflers, I might try this. After cats (or whatever you have there) have Y-pipe from 2x3" to 4". Then, a 4" round multicore XR-1. A Y-pipe splitting the pipe again to 2x3". Two 3" oval XR-1 mufflers. Then V-band clamps. After clamps, the two 3" pipes joined again with a Y-pipe to a 4" pipe. Finally, one of these Borla marine mufflers as the combined rear muffler and the tip:

It wouldn't be cheap with three Y-pipes, four XR-1 multicore mufflers, and four V-band clamps. But it might work, both visually and in terms of the sound.

ptuomov, I was actually looking at those too... I don't know that I would quite as complex as your theory [I'm a simple man], but it might make a very cool install nonetheless. I need to do some measurements on the rear bumper. The Borla website quotes those as being 5' outlets, but it looks like the intermediate diameter is slightly larger.

...me thinks this might be pretty neat!

EDIT: Whoa! Just saw the price: $749.00 for a single unit.

No, it's for two, you just need one. $670 per pair at Summit. The par must include some hardware, because a single is $313:

The inlet is 4", outlet is 5", and case is 6".

Ack, thanks pt. I was going by the [limited] info on the Borla website. $313 isn't bad.
