Hmmm, guess I need more finesse/force wriggling the blower around. How many screws hold it in?

Gary Knox did add a filter to his HVAC system. It was a cut down house air filter with a coat hanger wire frame. He even sent me one, but unfortunatly I've never installed it and now it's packed in the dozens of boxes in preperation of my move. Maybe Gary will chime in on this one. IIRC it fit into the opening just aft of the rubber boot.

Thanks Herman.

After driving a bit this evening, I can tell you there is a huge difference in A/C temp.

Is it worth pulling the vent out of the center console, and using compressed air to blow through the evaporator from inside the car? (turned down a bit, to 50psi so it doesn't break fins maybe?)

Hilton, I tried that first today at 80psi, with the wife on the vacuum hose. Nothing came out. Systems less gummed up than mine, it might work for, but we got nothing out of doing so.

After I had most of it cleaned off, I tried it again with no luck. I fully expected a billowing cloud of dust to hit the wife, and it didn't happen.

Then once those are free, you can move the blower around so you can get to the evaporator.

Hope that helps.

Getting it out is not an issue, getting it back in w/o dropping it in to the abyss is. Using some tape to hold the bolt in the socket as you align it will help. I use that blue painters tape.

Herman,
Your evaporator looks pretty clean!

Here's a few pics I took when changing the filter. To be honest w you, I did this right after I bought the car so I did NOT check the evaporator coils when I pulled the filter. I'm guessing that it had never been changed when I got the car 2 1/2 years ago.

Friggin PO's!!

Wow that is nasty!

Would it be assumed that an A/C that blows cold doesn't have build up?

No... I would not assume that. It may be that it's not as bad as the example Sean posted. I'm actually quite eager to see what mine looks like. Even though it still blows cold, my guess is that it's nasty nasty nasty.

I found a mouse den in blower plenum. That vacuumed out, though.
