I have purchased a 1978 928 Vin 9288201096 and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the car number is? My 928 is the same color as the 1977 Car and Driver Issue. Has Light brown leather interior all over the place. Headliner, dash, doors, rear hatch, side panels, center console, all four seats etc...

The carpet is dark brown on the lower doors, floor pans and rear seats. Very unique looking car. Please help. Thanks, Michael in Henry, NE

Didn't early cars have some duplication in vin between ROW and US markets, so vin and production numbers might be off by 600 or so.

Yes and no. All model years have dublication or even three separate sets. However this doesn't mean they would be off. Each sequence is its own set and they do not have any direct connection to each other.

9288201096 is close to end of 9288200001 - 9288201139 US model production run for '78 MY. How many ROW models were made at the time US model 201096 was at end of production line is anybodys quess. Since 2646 ROW '78 were done in entire model year, number must be at least 2000. '78 ROW sequence was 9288100001 - 9288102646.
