vavle covers almost off
I am 50% done removing valve covers on my 89' 928. Other then the oil check valve is their any other recommeneded parts to replace. I am going to either high temp paint of powder coat the valve covers. I have removed the driver's side valve cover. I have taken all the bolts off the passenger side. Now I have to remove a few components to get actually take the cover off.

If it were me (and it was not that long ago ;-) I'd replace the tensioner chain guides (and the crush rings on the U-pipe you have to take loose to release the tensioner). The parts are very inexpensive and it only takes ten minutes or so on each side. Good preventative maintenance.
If you change them, only the pad on the pressure side of the tensioner is removable, the other one is fixed in place and despite much discussion, does not seem to be available from any normal source.

Once I get the other cover off, hopefully tonight or tommorow ill take some pictures. I still have not found out where the cylinder temp sensor is located but I'm replacing that too. I probably screwed up most the bolt heads and a few random parts here and their. If any one has replaced it please let me know how to get to the temp sensor. also what is the benifits of that gt dual cam breather upgrade kit. When my 928 runs I won't drive it hard and only drive it a couple times a week. Is it worth buying?

Hall sensor comes to mind... unless you have really skinny fingers for when it does break. Would be great if you could post pictures along your way. Good luck! / Bruce

The seat will come loose from the head and just wear into the set screw and then move up once oil pressure gets under it till it blocks the oil passageways and the cams will seize.
I am afraid to butcher the holding screw trying to get it out, to install it I wouldn't be sure how deep to insert the holding screw and I would worry the screw will come loose and the check valve parts would be bouncing around in the cam housing. I actually did order the spring and O-ring but I'm not sure if I will replace them.

status update: finally got the other valve cover off. I put some paint stripper I bought at lowes on it. Horrible stuff, very slow. I will have to take it to work tommorow and use some chemical stripper I use on aircraft parts. Anyways before I submerge it into the stripper, how do I take the two cam breathing parts off the passanger side valve corvers? what about thoose two plastic caps on the drivers side? I am going to try and do a write up starting from when the valve covers are completely stripped due to the fact I probably took the most destrive path on taking them off.
