which stock porsche wheels will fit ?
i want to change the dishbord wheels on my 84.
i am looking for local second hand ,stock porsche wheels (five spoke or 4spoke).
i am looking for 17 inch wheels that absolutely dont rub the body and that have the same feeling as stock when driving.
i dont know anything about offset , dont know wat the limits are,,so i dont know where to take care of.
i did a surch on this forum, but i see a lot of wheels and different numbers.
i just give up reading the local ads and try to compare with forum info.
does anybody know wat porsches have the same ofset because most ads dont give numbers,,they just say for wath car they are used.(mostly 911 or 944)
or they say 10j or 9j .
or they dont know wt offset the wheels have at all.
and there are zero wheels for sale for a 928,,only the ugly dischers or the small telephone wheels

You need to do research.
Very few Porsche wheels besides 928 wheels fit the 928 perfectly. It's often a compromise on looks, price and fitment. It doesn't help that Porsche made many, many types of wheels that have a 5x130 bolt pattern and are "OK" fits but not optimal. You have to do you own research, gain an understanding and then look over the offerings until you find one you're satisfied with.
There's always the big money approach of having custom wheels made. If youve' got $2500-$4500 dollars to spend then the choosing gets easy.
I just bought a set of 8x18 and 10x18 wheels from a 2006 Cayman. Looked for a long time and they came along for low money ($400) Still not enough offset for the front.
BTW - I've got a 1973 Riviera. Looks good in the garage next to my 928.

As yours is an early car, it has a higher negative scrub radius than S4-onwards suspension (with a stock ET65 wheel, 16mm on early cars vs. 10mm on S4).
This gives you a little more leeway on offset whilst retaining the bump-steer - ET55mm is 10mm less than 65, so the 16mm negative scrub radius is reduced by 10mm. On an S4, that would eliminate the bump steer, but on early cars you're still in negative territory.
996 or Boxster wheels have a workable offset.. 17x7 ET55 front (will hold a stock 225 wide tire), 17x9 ET55 rear. (the Boxster variant is actually 17x8.5 rear).
The ones you picture will work, as will the more common twists like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-PO...Q5fAccessories
Of course, the absolute best option will be some 928 ET65 Cup II's or Cup I's from the GTS (or 968 I think?).

the set is allready sold,
but i found ,wat you call twist wheels, waiting for an answer.
i want to keep my original wheels for the yearly inspection. the tires are almost over the limits.
wider tires are not allowed at the yearly inspection in our country , verybody change them after the inspection.
i have to find a fitting set quick ,,otherwise ill have to sell new tires for the original wheels to.

Yes I did search a number of posts. That one included. It is really detailed, but at the end of it I still wasn't convinced whether 17" boxster wheels with a 55mm offset were a "close enough" fit. Hilton's earlier response indicates "...Boxster wheels have a workable offset..." ; but also says "...On an S4, that would eliminate the bump steer..." I didn't understand the impact of that. I certainly don't want to screw up the handling dynamics.
