Use some washing up liquid/soap for lubrication.
If that fails break out the KY.

Lube up the inside only to allow you to still get grip on the outside.
Skip the soap... use silicone lube.

Slit it with a box cutter like you're gutting a fish, then stretch the front of the boot over the flange on the shift rod and secure it with a ziptie. Life is too short to deal with that degree of PITA.

Exactly what I did.

Might be easy to do with the TT out of the car. From underneath? I'd almost skip the whole thing but once you've got the part you might as well use it.

I slid it over on a couple of cars - took a few goes, and its important, like Jim says above, to keep the lube off the outside so you can get a grip on it.

Push it over lop-sided, so that it goes past one of the humps on the side of the coupler first, then with some twisting movement the other side will pop over fairly easily.

Ive installed my new bushings in the coupler and a new boot, mine was torn at the the selector shaft end.

I have a hard time getting the end of the boot on the flange of the shift shaft.

Ive tried some car washing soap to lubricate it but then I cant get any grip,

ideas?

The boot can be stretched quite a bit. Worked fine for me.

I hate putting that boot back on. Absolutely hate it. I might need to make a tool like the one above to make it easier.

Today, I was doing a coupler on a mid mount turbo car and if you thought it was a pain in the *** before, try one of these.

I left it for the night and attempted again in the morning. hands still sore from the previous night attempts. I applied some washing soap to the flange...not the boot and tried again, working from the top and pushing the whole boot forward, I managed to get the lip over the flange and then work it around the sides to the bottom. Got it on! took me about another 15 min. so happy it didnt take me longer.
