You may wish to try your local hardware store - the 20" belts are used for the riding lawn mowers.

Glenn

I wasnt sure if the green lawn equipment belts would suffice. Gates 6820 should work in that case. Need to find one though.

A good supply store will stock these in 1/2" increments.

I should have added that the fan pulleys came in different sizes. No, I don't know what got what. Get a few, try them out, take the mis-fits back.

if the OD of the fan pulley is ~106mm you need the 21" belt.
if the OD of the fan pulley is ~86mm you need the 20" belt.

Granger has both the 20 and 21 inch belt for about 5 bucks.

4l200 = 20 inch belt
4l210 = 21 inch belt

They will ship to you but every state in the US of A has a Grainger supply store.

Please excuse my ignorance. Does the 1989 S4 model have an air pump as well?

OB'ers: Did anyone notice any gains by bypassing the airpump?

And will doing so decrease the life of a cat?

Yes, but it has its own belt. The early cars have a belt that goes around the air pump and also the fan clutch for the mechanical puller fan on the radiator, hence the need for a shorter belt that just goes to the fan clutch.

S4 onwards has dual electric puller fans, so you can just cut and remove the air pump belt.
