RESTORE/UPGRADE S4 TO IMPROVED/LARGER BRAKES
Now that I have my wheels/Tires selected for my project car (MY87), I want to focus on the brakes.
History: Project car purchased with the intent to rebuild/restore almost in it's entirety, exterior/interior/motor replacement, etc; Plan to supercharge this car
Brake Goals: Better braking performance given supercharger intent, cool look of larger calipers and rotors; Address potential down the road maintenace issues at this time
Questions:
1. Are there significant differences in SS brake lines being offered by various vendors?
2. How do I determine what is a really good rotor to use? (I looked thru the tire rack catalog and learned there are many to choose from)
3. What are some of the configurations (Pad type/rotors being used by those who are SC'd?
4. Are there other braking-related components that I should be considering to upgrade/replace outside of the calipers/pads/lines/rotors?

My '87 S4 always stopped really well, so your stock calipers should be fine, maybe rebuild and repaint them.
I have Hawk Performance low-dust pads and cross drilled Zimmermans on my GTS and they do very well.

What's your budget? We can get carbon-ceramics on there, but you'll need $10k+.
I have standard S4 calipers with the Hawk Performance pads. Great pad. No problems stopping. Costs about $180 (last time I ordered them, IIRC).
If you need more aggresive braking, think about a 55% bias valve (I think around $150)
If that's not enough, you can do a GTS brakes and rotor conversion. Used calipers are about $700, Good pads about $250, Rotors are ~$250 ea, so $500. So that's about $1,500 just to do the front brakes. Rears can also be done, but I don't know the costs.

I have a pair of GTS calipers I am in the process of refinishing available for $650. I also have a set of OEM Textar GTS pads that have ~85% or more remaining and will throw them in with the calipers for $100 more. PM me if interested.
Also have an Andy Keel 2.2 twin screw intercooled kit available, complete.

Mark K did a big rotor upgrade on his race car to GTS Rotors that utilized the stock S4 caliper (milled out to clear the rotor at the ends of the caliper). It used spacers and longer caliper bolts for mounting the caliper. Most likely it is the cheapest way to upgrade to GTS sized brakes ecause it utilizes you stock calipers and pads. Given the rotor cost being the same for any upgrade in rotor size the cost of caliper bolts and a flatplate spacer pales compared to the costs of two GTS Big Black calipers. Last I looked S$ pads were less expensive than GTS pads. There is a thread on it.

I also have a spare of Big Red (993tt calipers, so the tubes need to be swapped from L to R fro 928 use), laying around that I would let go of for a reasonable amount of money.

I'm learning (as usual) thru these posts and my train of thought was if I added a SC to the mix, I would probably want to have the quickest stopping ability and cost effective too. Sounds like that isn't an issue based upon your experience.
I've read a number of older posts and I like what Jim M did on his rears (993 turbo rotors/calipers) but that might be a little steep for me, initially, given the total spend I am anticipating on this car - hell, that might be my carputer lol...
Are you aware of any type of correlation table that would give me a "novice's perspecive" on the feel/impact to changing the bias valve to diferent settings?
As always...thx...
