Ken's tensioner is better than the factory tensioner. It's great to have a choice, in a free market.
I was speaking of the factory design. The laso pumps are 1/2 the price of the guardian pump. I am not saying this pump is no good. Just unnecessary. Same with the tensioner. It's not that it's better or worse. They both do the same thing. It's your money. Spend which way you will. I will not attempt to stop you.

Better check again. Roger sells new Laso pump for $395 plus shipping and handling. I sell ours for $450 including shipping. Not quite 1/2 price.

What's your failure rate?

Unfortunately Laso prices are on the rise. One of my suppliers just got a new batch and my cost is over $400.

Yep, found that out the other day, Laso jacked the prices up. There was a flap with them not wanting to reproduce the pumps and they needed a guarantee that a certain number would be sold in order for them to continue.

I would guess that the new higher price will guarantee fewer sales.

However we all have a choice - new Laso, new Porsche or Ed's pump.

Ed, Sounds like you have had some premature failures of the "clutch". This reults in tearing down the front of the engine again to replace.
Have you resolved this now?

Best,
Roger

That was my thought also, sort of like kicking your self in the nuts.

Not speaking for Ed, but I have installed several of his Guardian pumps and none of my folks have suffered any failures.

Sorry for this thread resurrection but I was reviewing this entire thread before doing my TB/WP job this summer and just before this question was posted by Roger there were a few cases of documented early failures. This question was never answered.

So, Ed was there a quality upgrade to the puck or 'clutch' as Roger called it?
Who's still running with the guardian pump after all this time?
While I am just trying to get all the info to make a better decision for my choice of WP I am also hoping the answer is yes because I believe it is a brilliant design.

I'm still running the Guardian pump. This past fall drove from Vegas to New Orleans, 3rd Coast, and back to Las Vegas. We put over 4700 miles on the car, in all types of weather with the A/C on, and Zero problems! I believe Ed's pump was money well spent.
