Preparing to remove auto trans on my 80
I'm getting the heads back in the next day or so... and will begin re-assembling the motor, and put it back into the chassis.
I re-sprayed the fender undercoat in gloss black, after several healthy cleanings! Began serious re-assembly this weekend. Got the steering rack re-installed, a-arms, spindles, struts, bumper brace, wiring harnesses, etc.... I'm still working on some odds n ends but... overall much closer.
Terrible pic sorry, but it's too crowded in the garage, I'm also building an 83 rabbit for my brother so... bear with me...
Anyway the real point of this post... My tranny is leaking under the torque convertor... I talked to stan briefly about it... Once the engine is re-installed, I'm going to remove the rear suspension/tranny, and r&r the transmission, rear suspension.
Any tips/pointers/tools that I should look into prior to removing the trannny??
Thanks!

get the back of the car up atleast 24 inches, this will give you room to slide out the rear crossmember you need a good floor jack and 2 jackstands.
Take the torque tube out with the trans ,
so remove the front bellhousing first.
this will reduce the possibility of damage to the input shaft or bending the driveshaft, plus you can inspect the TT for a rumble.
put a motorcycle tiedown on the rear sway bar and tighten it up under the transaxle then drop the rear cross member , dont forget to disconnect the E brake cable from the handle it comes out with the cross member.
Remove the CV joints at the trans output flanges, disconnect the shifter cable, and lines from the trans

update...
Thanks for the help...
That's a pretty easy task, only 2 hours... Torque tube came out with tranny, as one, piece, and I was able to separate them on the floor easily. The trannsmission albeit heavy with the torque tube is very well balanced... Surprised considering other project cars... that are not so easy to work with!!
Anyway... will allow me time to scrub the belly of the car, and clean all the aluminum, repair any electrical gremlins hiding out back there, fix some leaks, and do a little more paint matching!
Wish I had the time, money and parts for a 5 speed conversion... dang guess that's a future mod!!!
