Engine bay component question
Doing a fuel line refresh and the valve in the picture is not mounted to the car (floats free at ends of lines). The valve appears to be an aftermarket version.
The cloth braided line connected to the left goes into the passenger wheel well and I think over to the carbon canister. The braided line was shot and fell apart at the valve.
What does this valve do? Is the one pictured a viable substitute? Should it be mounted to the engine bay somewhere or is free floating okay?

Hi Jim, if one line goes to the carbon cannister and the other to the intake, then it's almost certainly to regulate fuel vapors being drawn into the engine. The valve closes under certain conditions (can't remember what they are, maybe decceleration?) to prevent the vapor from getting in.

Looks like the 928.110.429.02 Vacuum Valve. Last price that I have is $26.66 - call Jeannie at (828) 766-9280 and see if it is still available.

Wally is of course right on the number.
To find the part check out item #18 on illustration 201-10.
It is still available.

So what was installed in the car was a Purolator brand showing PN 928 110 429 00. Is this a viable alternate? Anyway to check for proper operation?
