Default s4 engine into 85 body????

Anyone know if an s4 engine will fit with almost no modifications into an 85 body with 5 speed transmission??

Looking at the 85' on Ebay that has no engine. Might be interesting to buy if I can place an s4 engine in it relatively easy. Anyone done this before?

Motor fits, all the controls and electronics and wiring are different. End result is a very hard to sell frankencar.

There is a rennlister who has done it who is local to me. Took an '85 Euro, swapped in an s4 motor, then added a supercharger. It is a beast of a car, but the build will require using the newer computer the '85 computer won't work w/an s4.

the car you are probably looking at is Ryan's car on this board.

The S4 motor will bolt right into the 85/86 chassis. I have done it.

If you use the S4 motor you need to use the S4 wiring harness and brains.
These are VERY easy to adapt to the S3 wiring harness at the CE panel.

This job is only slightly harder than a straight engine pull, and reinstall.

Keep in mind that you will need to do a custom fan setup as the stock fan is mechanical and bolts to the engine.

Worth mentioning that the flywheels are different, as are the clutch set ups, bellhousing and starter bracket adds interest as well Also note that Colin "These are VERY easy to adapt to the S3 wiring harness at the CE panel. " is a VERY EXPERIENCED 928 owner !

Default Thanks

Well, I bought an S4 5 speed instead. Got everything I wanted. Like the older rear end better, but I think the resale on an S4 5 speed will hold up quite nicely. Thanks for your comments.
