Default Bunch of smaller repair items scheduled for the weekend...

Hi folks,

This weekend I'm planning to pull the center console and drop the exhaust to:

1. Replace the shifter ball cup, rear bushings, and plastic bushings
2. Replace the cabin temp sensor
3. Replace the comb filter flap actuator bladder
4. See about replacing the sealing foam on the air mixer flap(s)
5. Repair a broken heater wire on my O2 sensor
6. Change tranny oil
7. Install a "bee sting" antenna
8. Maybe replace "insulation" foam block around the shifter linkage
9. Probably replace shifter frame and inner rubber boot
10. Replace the radio bezel

I've got all the parts (I think/hope), including the bronze rear shifter bushings and a new grub screw.

No, Colin, I'm not going to install your shifter instead of that silly front ball cup. ;-) It's tempting, but it's budget I don't have right now. I am taking your advice, though, on the RedLine gear oil.

I found a couple of good write-ups, with pictures, on the CC removal and actuator bladder replacement. Any other write-ups or tips I should be aware of for these items?

Thanks,
Paul

Well, three down:

1. Center console out
2. Cabin temp sensor replaced
3. Comb flap actuator bladder replaced and checked. John Pirtle's write-up was a great help on this: http://members.rennlist.com/pirtle/svc.html

Now, how about that big foam block that goes all around the shift linkage? Can someone tell me what's involved in replacing that? My current one is crumbling, and I have a good condition used one from 928 International that I'd like to get installed.

Thanks,
Paul

with the exhaust dropped and the center heat shield out of the way, drop the front of the TT and you may be able to squeeze the new foam into place, it will be easier if you remove the shifter so both of the shift rods are loose

Thanks.

Can you expand a bit on what's involved in dropping the front of the torque tube?

Remove the shifter from the both rods,
remove the lower bell housing,
remove the pinch collar bolts ,
slide the pinch collar back ,
then remove the 2 trans mounts watch for the shims ,
then undo the front TT bolts to the bell housing,
push the TT back a bit,
then pull the front of the TT down and this may give you enough room to slide the new foam into place around the shifter tubes.
Reconnect all parts
