Default Under hood lite

The lite under the hood doesn't come on when the hood is raised, parking lights on, engine running, doesn't matter. Bulb checks out as good, so does the switch. Also the fans will run when the hood is up. I was under the impression that for safety reasons that was a no, no. Also the fans don't run after the engine is turned off, even in this desert heat. Otherwise they come on as required, engine temp, A/C on and the flap motor works as it should. Is there a fuse, or relay that I'm forgetting to check?
Thanks in advance, Joe

Did you check to see if the wires are disconnected under the cowl cover? Follwo the wires that come out of the hood near the diver side hinge.

Check fuse #43 (5A). It runs the license plate lights and the engine compartment light.

the bulb fixture under the hood is a very technical device it has a mercury switch in it. to take it apart first put a towel under the work area, then remove the screw.
find a small tab on the side of the housing press the bulb in a bit and then bend the tab out so the insides will come clear .

Remove the bulb and the innards will fall out be careful as there will be a glass tube with metal ends that also comes out, clean these ends with an eraser and also the bulb , and its contacts, clean the grounding area under the screw seat.

Fit it all back together , fit the housing to the hood, remove the bulb then turn on the parking lights, get the multi meter and check for 12v at the center pin on the housing.
If no voltage then remove the cowl cover and about center of the cowl there is a 3 wire connector this is for the heated washers and the hood light , only one wire goes to the light housing the hood is the ground.
Check the car side of the harness for voltage to the wire that goes to the light, sometimes the connectors are dirty ,
but usually the light housing needs a good cleaning and the screw completes the ground.

Buy a 95 GTS and drive it under the bulb. That will fix the problem. Then again, you'll have a whole host of new problems but I bet your hood light will work

Actually, this will not work. The GTS (and the '91 S4/GT) uses a festoon type bulb and it is located in the center of the hood rather than the side. Otherwise it was a sound suggestion.

And some people know too much about these cars...
