How to remove one-piece GT shift **** boot?
Finally beginning my torque tube R&R to send unit to Constantine. So far I have removed air cleaner, engine compartment cross brace, O2 sensor wire, complette exhaust, exhaust shields and both cross brackets below the tube. Next I need to remove the shift **** and boot.
The GT **** and boot are in one piece. I have done a search and looked at the workshop manual but all I can find is "pull". How do I release the bottom of the boot? Do I go inside the console from the top? Please advise.
(This will likely be the first of many questions. I am going to attempt to remove the tube without removing the rear suspension. I'm told it can be done. I have the car on a 4-post lift which has made the job up to now pretty easy).

Hi Jim-
The shift boot surround has a couple of L-shaped plastic clips that hold it into the console. If you curl your fingertips along the front edge of the boot and pull back slow but steady, it'll deform enough to release. Or at least it should...
Once it's free, then you get the joy of pulling the **** off the shifter itself. That can be a chore in itself if it's never been off. Two hands, wiggle, make sure you don't knock yourself unconscious in the process.
When you go to reinstall the boot surround, lay it flat atop the console and press down evenly all the way around. It should snap stright down into place. Hooking one side and trying to distort it back into place doesn't work so well.
