What you’ll find around here is (and probably true from a sentimental view)… it is worth more than what you would be able to reasonably sell it for in the next 30 to 60 days.

If this were my deceased dad’s car… I’d never even think of selling it. It might not be the fastest 928, but it sure looks nice:

By the looks of it (and you would know) it appears to have been stored in doors most if not all it’s life. A nice looking 84 auto like this should be worth $6+K, but good luck trying to sell it for much over $4K in today’s market.

Harley market is in the tank right now too… so maybe you find someone looking to trade, but you might regret this some day down the road.

Okay, you want a number... I'd say street value AS IS $3800 (just my opinion)

$3800 I'll probably just hold onto it. I think it did have a repaint at some point and my sisters cleaned out his house after he passed and never got any paperwork. I only got the title. I have no idea what maintenance went into it or who did it. There was a time we were not on speaking terms. I do love the car. Just hearing it rumble at idle brings back great memories.

That's worth a lot more than $3800 cash, I'd say.

EXACTLY! You will never be able to replace this car even if you buy another 928... As noted Harley's are a dime a dozen!

Knowing only what you've said so far, $7,500 is a hard sell. When was the timing belt done? What about the flex plate, other rubber parts and belts? You might get 5K to some novice, but you need to do a balancing act between "It's a great ride" and "Nothing you can't fix yourself with the help of Rennlist" And have them sign an As Is release when you get the cash.
Flex plate and T-belt make little difference on this car. NON-interference engine and not enough Tq to cause a flexplate issue... still better to have them checked and done vs. not...

I was thinking more along the $5k value, but w/o seeing the car in person there is really no telling...

If you love this car as you said, I'll help you find the scooter of your dreams. I've been a biker almost all my life. It's the one thing that is as much fun today as it was the first time. As a side note I've never paid more than 7 grand for a bike in my life. And those clowns on TV, well we were building bikes like that 30 years ago.
I'm a real biker, not a Harley owner. Send me a PM, UI'll hook you up.
The only thing my old man ever left me was a buck, and 50 states to make a living in, keep you're pop's car.

Yeah, thier mine, I've been an Angel for over 36 years. Founding member of the Big Red Machine, SFV.
I had my patch before we had charters outside of California, my bottom rocker was a LACO rocker,
when we started getting chapters outside of Ca. We changed to state rockers, rather than city rockers.
Now we're all over the world. The sun never sets on the Hells Angels Colors.
And we're not the the boggymen that the movies and the government tries to say we are. Most of us are veterans, and have fought for this country. We're men that believe in America and won't be pushed.
I think the biggest criminals are in the government. The government is afraid of us. They can't handle anyone or anything that won't bend to thier will.
Ilove this country more than my life, but I HATE THE GOVERNMENT.

AC condition, sunroof, windows, radio, heater, lights, wipers working, tire condition, brakes, bolster wear, hatch/hood struts, engine rubber age, rust, lamp lenses?

Anything from $2600-4000 depending on the condition of all that stuff. I would say around $3400 as is, where is. If you want more, start doing all the BS things that shoppers look for. Having a working AC in July is kinda important.

What is that supposed to mean?

EDIT, I get it, "Jerry and The Dead", pay no attention to me.

Maybe I need to start drinking tonight, that was a bit stupid of me.

As a matter of fact I have and did. I used to know Bobby Weir pretty well back in the day. The Dead played at the Pirates Ball, in San Francisco Bay, for a number of years, and they put on some really fantastic concerts in Goldengate Park. Those guys didn't get warmed up till they played for about 6 hours.
Thanks for the question, brought back some great memories, and good times!

From this post i would suggest that you enlist the assistance of a few other owners local to you,
for some RnR on the cars systems ,
might take a few weekends but in no time it can be in tip top daily driver shape,
might also take a few G notes,
But hey once its done you wont be screwing with little things,
plus you will have a better understanding of the machine and what your dad liked about it.
Then it will be ready for you to be hitting the key and riding off.
Good luck with your decision.
