Default S4 seat lumbar support

My 87 S4 has the 12 way adjustable, heated sats on both sides w/ memory. On the passenger side everything still works, but the center lumbar makes a sound like it's skipping teeth on the drive gear. I'm guessing that there isn't a bladder inside the seat, there is a mechanical device that expands to adjust the lumbar support in the seat. Does anybody know how the lumbar adjuster works? And what am I getting into, or should I have a pro fix this problem. I don't want to make something worse than it already is.
Thanks in advance.

The lumbar system in the 928 is indeed mechanical. The carrier moves up and down on two guides, and compressed in length to produce the in and out adjustment.
They usually do this noise when the carrier is at the end of it's travel. It's always a good idea to not lay on the backrest when adjusting the lumbar.

If anything blocks the movement of the carrier, the little motor skips on the toothed piece of plastic that provides the travel.
