The moment I saw "stripes" I wasn't sure, if I should vote. Same thing with "black roof" - the 928s shape neither lends itself well for a contrasting roof color, nor have I ever seen stripes on a 928 that I really liked. You can force those things upon the shape, but they won't live in harmony.
Having said that, of the color choices you provided, the yellow is my favorite.

That's a nice classy yellow ... not too loud ... looks a bit gold?? Gray is second choice. I think the others are a bit 'in your face' for the stylish lines of a 928. Ditto Nicoles comments on stripes and contrasting roof.

Dean I like that old school stripe! Good idea...
That white is just going to look DIRTY...alpine and grand prix both look pretty good, but that one is going to age poorly. Gray...WAY TO BORING! Should be banned as a color...in fact come to think of it, it is a NON-COLOR! Just like white and black...
This is a Porsche man...be bold! I love the green but the orange would be pretty damn cool too. Neither of them have been produced in any significant number (if AT ALL in the case of signal green) and it would be SO COOL to have a car that unique!

The stripes on all the ones you've pictured line up with a front or rear bumper black highlight or a delineated bumper line. The 928 hasn't got those lines or highlights to pick up, continue on from, and line up with .. which is why I think it might look a bit planted on for the sake of it. It'd be good to see what you finally decide photoshopped. If you did do a stripe maybe it needs a front and rear small continuation like the GT3?

From a paint (or decal) scheme perspective, you can force almost anything on anything - just go to any track and look at the race cars. In the end it's all about what you personally like - it's your car, and should reflect your personal style and taste.
If you want to do a contrasting roof, my suggestion is to have it "wrapped" by one of those places that wrap whole cars in different color vinyl. This way, when you get tired of it (or realize it doesn't look that great), you can just peel it off.
Same with the stripes - as long as they are "stick-on", there is no harm done. You can remove them as soon as you get tired of them.
So, my advice is this: do what you and your son both like, and try not to make the more extreme ideas permanent.

You could probably buy this PORSCHE striping as an accessory, but to the best of my knowledge, it was not a factory option on the 928 - ever. (for good reason, I think)

After meeting lots of judges in my youth, my color taste leans towards the most subtle rather than the loudest. I wouldn't mind one of the louder colors, for a car that was a display-only vehicle. Any color that shouts "Look at me!!!" is a backstop for something else that's coming up short. Small cars that have to work hard to get less performance need a loud color to make up for that. Except for some F-cars that almost have to be red, most serious performance cars to me look better in quieter colors. I know it's not a commonly-shared opinion, but... Make mine black, please. From your selection set, the grey is the best. Although a darker one would be better IMHO.
