Removing AC Condenser
How the heck does this thing come out? I'm trying to remove it so I can clean the thing as im trying to get my AC working again. I have all the top bolts out but can't seem to find where its holding it on at the bottom? Any ideas?
Thanks

Underneath, you'll find some rubber plugs. You need to pull the ones out that are near the left and right edges of the evaporator. Then use a deep 10mm socket in the holes to remove the bolts that screw into the nuts welded to the bottom of the evaporator.
By the way, on mine, the nuts stripped when trying to reinstall the evaporator, and I had to pull it again and replace them with speed nuts. Reinstallation was trickier that removal for me... good luck with that bit of it.
Cheers,
Paul

The front spoiler needs to come off to get to the rubber plug-covered lower condensor bolts on the front crossmember. Not sure whether there's anything mounted where the oil cooler ducting is on a pre '90 S4.

The front undertray does need to come off, though, if you have one.

Where can I get the original AC lines rebuilt? I would like to get them converted to barrier lines so this is a full 134a system. Can any AC shop do this? ANy thoughts would be great.

Any local A/C shop should have the proper barrier hose and hydraulic crimping tools to rebuild the hoses. Have used two different shops here locally.

Rob, thanks! good to know!
Aren't I suppose to use some type of sealant and "mineral oil" on the new seals when I put the hoses back on? Does autozone or advance have this stuff?

I typically dunk each o-ring in refrigerant oil and wipe off most of it before installing. The biggest deal is making sure each hose joint is clean so you don't trap dirt/gunk on your sealing surfaces.

If your system was R-12 you should flush the system, replace all the o-rings. I also rebuilt the compressor, parts are cheap. I don't think you want to use mineral oil with R-134, use Ester, Polyol Ester or PAG .
