does the metal channel that the feet of the lift fit into reside in front of the shock towers....how is that strong enough?

Do not use mahogany. It is not a structural wood unless you make an LVL (laminated veneer lumber) out of it 3 or 4" thick. As I don't think you'll have time to construct a laminating line in your workshop, I'd suggest not using the mahogany.
