Anyone forget a 928GT at the mall?

A luxury eyesore gets cleaned up
When it comes to abandoned cars, beat-up domestics and cheap imports are a common sight, but how about a luxury, German sports car?
That's exactly what happened in Bethesda in mid-May. Someone dumped a Porsche 928 GT in the parking lot of the Westwood shopping center on Westbard Ave. And there it sat for five weeks, a high-end eyesore, but an eyesore nonetheless.
"It has a broken driver's side window, no license plate, the hood is partially popped up, and the interior has seemingly been stripped," an anonymous and exasperated griper wrote about a week ago.
Kenneth Hartman, director of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center for Montgomery County, saw the gripe and sprung into action. Hartman notified Montgomery County Police of the car and officers investigated. They determined the car wasn't stolen, Hartman said. However, Montgomery County Police couldn't order a tow of the vehicle because it was on private property, so they notified the owners of the shopping center to remove it, Hartman said. The property owners did not return a call for comment, but on Friday an employee of a business at the shopping center said the car had been removed.

Well, it gives a name and job title to start the trail.. someone get on the phone and rescue it
Of course, given the average level of knowledge about 928's, it may well have been just a badly abused '80 4.5L car.

Could be the usual S4 GT DMV confusion from a simple VIN lookup. Also could be stolen and the owner doesn't know its gone yet.
How long does it need to sit in the impound lot before a lien sale in MD?

That car's been there for more than 2 years. It may have been noticed by the blogger a month ago, but it's been there for a long, long time.
It's a totally trashed auto, circa '82 to '84. When I first saw it, it got my attention, but when I got closer I could see why it was abandoned. Not even a parts candidate.
A shame.
