Am I drunk, or is the 928 the pinnacle of German engineering?

Drunk.

Well put together with quality bits, but Porsche engineers have an unerring ability to include some quirks. Odd pedal/steering wheel relationship on older 911's, oil leaks (any model), 986/987996/997 IMS bearings, etc.

This is my view of the current Porsche lineup:
the Cayman/Boxster is the new 911
the 911 is the new 928 (in both size and similar weight ratio, pretty much takes the 2door GT category)
the Panamera is the new 4 door 928 GT

The only 3 reasons why they might want to remake the 928:
1. a v8 GT (negatives - eats up the 911 sales and Panamera)
2. a v12 GT (negative/positive - encroaching up on Ferrari's engine size)
3. a w16 GT (negative - encroaching up on Bugatti/Lamborghini's area so in turn encroaches on VW/Audi, do note that porsche relationship with VW and they want to keep a relationship with VW/Audi)

What is sad is that it is cheaper to just buy a 928, and then modify the body/interior/engine to look and preform like a modern remake.

Personally if they remake the 928, I say they should make it a v12
