Nice Black-on-black early 1987 Auto for Sale
I've got a very eraly '87 S4 Auto. Vin ends in 0086. Production began with 0061, so this is the 15th car off the line. It's black on black and has been my project car. I bought it a couple years back then sold it to a guy in Ohio. He was doing an intake re-fresh when upon startup, there was a bad ticky ticky. He shut it down. Ended up taking the passenger head off and found a pebble has fallen into one of the cylinders. Luckily there was no damage (there are detailed pics in the links below). But then he ran into financial problems.
I helped him out by purchasing the car and finishing the head job - you may have seen the thread. While everything was off I had the intake and cam covers powdercoated. It has new knock sensors, fuel lines, vacuum lines, breather hoses, wires, plugs, caps, and rotors. I only did the one head gasket as the old one that came off looked almost brand new.
I think it needs a timing belt, and am planning to do that job soon.
Update: I have just finished the timing belt and installed a PK Tensioner. The water pump looked quite new and the bearing felt fine, so I opted to leave it.
There are a couple of paint issues. There's a scrape on the driver front fender which I will get fixed soon. There's also a "spider web" crack in the paint on the front bumper. This will require sanding and re-spraying the front bumper. Not sure if I will do this or not.
Update: I have applied the Dr ColorChip to a few sections, and have mostly taken care of the scrape on the Driver's front fender and a few stone chips. Needs another application to resolve them completely. Tried it on the spider crack, and it helped, but still visible.
The car has just shy of 93k miles on it. It has MSDS headers and a rasied hub steering wheel. No other options worth mentioning.
AC works great, but seems to be developing Magic Blower Syndrom - it's done it a handful of times now. Passenger door lock motor is not working right now - haven't even looked at it yet, but should be a relatively easy fix.
Update: Pulled the old motor and it appears to be dead. Have a new one and will install it soon.
Oh yeah... it has a new windshield as of 2 years ago - old one was cracked.
I've checked the flex plate and there was nominal preload. End play of the crank was within spec - 0.20mm or 0.008". Spec is 0.40mm. Trans has been serviced with new fluid and filter.
Update: Installed a PKlamp to stop flexplate migration.
It has new brake pads, but did not have my powerbleeder with me to fush the brakes, so that still needs to be done.
I was going to list it for $12,900, but I would be willing to let it go to another 928 Owner's Club member for $11,000. If I don't sell it in the next couple weeks, I'm going put a supercharger on it and list it for $16,000.
Car is located in Athens, Ohio.
Tons of pics are here.

No, the wifey didn't find out. I've had my fun, with it and am ready to move on. I would really like to get an early OB 5-speed again (I started 928 ownership with an '82 5-speed) and turn it into a track car or something similar. Want to try my hand at painting too.
Soup- sorry not interested in trades.

Nice car - but gotta finish my project first before another Hey - your post said you were going to throw a supercharger on it and sell it for $5k more. Where can you get a supercharger for that amount?

Actually, I'm not sure if that'll happen. A few things need to fall into place first - like my tax refund. Turns out someone filed a return with my SSN. So now I have to wait for the IRS to sort things out. PITA! Sure I could dip into the savings, but I'm not sue the wife would appreciate that. The tax refund will not be noticed by her - and that's what I was counting on to finance the SCer.
So last night I fired it up and it ran great, except one of the fans does not seem to be running so it started to overheat. I think I might have disconnected something accidentally. I had fears that I had stuffed a paper towel into one of the rad hoses or something and had forgotten to take it out, but at highway speeds, the car cools down fine, so it has to be a fan issue. Will investigate/fix tonight.
