Rear bumperette delete question...
Hey all, I might finally be importing my 87 s4 from the states to finland in the next few months but noticed that here in finland , the 928s dont have the rear bumperettes due to the longer license plate. I assume I will have to remove them. anyone know how that might affect the customs/ import process and also,
any ideas on how this would be done? is it a simple process i can do at the customs warehouse once it arrives here?
thanks

If you remove them, you will have exposed cut outs in the bumper cover on either side of the license plate. you will need a whole new bumper cover. Just keep them on. They really do work btw - and protect that cover and paint!

believe me, i like them...think they add something to the look of the back. I am just not sure that they are allowed here. the license plates in europe are a lot longer than ours in the states so it wont fit between them.
while i'm at it....can anyone recommend a shipping service from US to Europe/Finland which wouldnt break the bank?

In Germany, they have a special format of license plates that mount in the space designed for US plates. Or you can get a very short plate (few letters and numbers) that fits. Not sure, if something like this is available in Finland.
Removing the bumperettes requires filling in holes in the bumper cover that are almost the size of the bumperettes. The cars look better without the bumperettes, but you'd have to get the bumper cover repainted.
Have you been in touch with Villhuer? He might know more.

i saw this thread which gave an idea for what i could do once they are gone but im trying to figure out just how difficult it is to get them off! does the whole back bumper need to come off first or can you just get behind it from underneath and unscrew whatever holds those bumperettes on?
i dont have my car here to check so if anyone knows i would appreciate it.

There's one Allen-head bolt from the bottom rear of each bumperette that holds them on. Less than a minute to remove both. This is a normal part of clean/wax/detailing. You may decide to make a larger backing panel to fit back there to hide the openings, hold it on with the bumperette holes and shorter bolts.. Then, when you are ready to bring it back to the US, off comes the facia panel and the wide plate, on go the bumperettes and the original plate.

Thanks Dr.bob!
so this is something that is done with the bumper still on? and there is nothing sticking out where they were before you take them off? if this is so then wow, that should be pretty fast and something i could do there in customs so i can add the longer license plate
