Today's projects: install new Central Warning unit and new alternator.
Installed the Central Warning unit from eBay, and ta-daa! it works. Dash lights up like a Christmas tree now. Pretty cool. I've now got two cautions: "tail light" and "brake pressure".
The passenger tail light on the side is out.
Owner's manual says the "brake pressure" light indicates one brake circuit has failed. Uh oh.
It took me four hours to get the new Bosch alt installed. It didn't come with a key for the shaft to keep everything locked down. So I had to take the key from the Valeo alt and file it down to make it fit. It was nearly twice as large as what I needed. That's what consumed so much time.
Finally got it all together and discovered that the cooling hood does not fit. Oh well. For now, I just want it to work. Fired it up and instantly shot to 14 volts and stayed there, rock solid.
Took it out for a drive and noticed that the car seemed to run a little bit better. Not sure if it was just me wanting it to run better.
The belt is in good shape, and very tight. The new alt is kind of noisy. I figure it may need some break-in time.
I'm glad I went through all the steps of cleaning/replacing grounds, fixing wires and general electrical clean up before I decided to replace the alt.
Here's the alt I bought. I honestly couldn't afford to buy a more expensive unit.
