It looks like as soon as I fix one problem, another one pops up. On my '87 S4, when I turn on the headlights, red warning "Tail Light" lights up on dashboard. Did a search, looks like I need to replace all of the bulbs in the back. Does it mean I need to replace everything including the backup lights or just those that turn on along with headlights?
Hi. I have the same problem, and still haven't fixed it yet. I was told to use Euro bulbs (not sure where to buy them). But to answer your question, yes, back up lights too. Don't forget the side markers and license plate bulbs as well.
928 specialists are selling the bulbs; I'd assume what they sell is fully compatible... Thanks a lot for the heads up on side markers and license plate bulbs.

I was down this path very recently. Ultimately, I ended up cleaning the sockets on a couple of the side markers, reconnecting one that was not even connected, and replacing several bulbs. Just FYI but the little bulb check computer is "demanding" in that it looks for "balance" in the bulbs from side to side, as well as the correct wattage bulb. After I did the sidelight improvements/replacements I still had taillight and brake warning lights. I then replaced the tail lights with a correct pair and the tail light warning went out. The brake light warning would only come on intermittantly and usually after a 15-30 minute drive. I finally corrected that by replacing both brake lights with the correct bulbs (I had used "heavy duty" bulbs in the brakes and evidently they were just enough different than the correct ones as to upset the computer from time to time)
I did not change the backup lights they were both good/working
Btw, do you guys happen to have item # for bulbs in side marker lights? Porsche parts catalog shows on the drawing, but does not give the item #s. 928 Specialists list them as the same bulb as tail light, but I wonder if that is really the case.
