Default Car Shows

A few observations… I have an 84’ 928 in really nice original condition and during the summer months I show her off at several of the larger local car shows. She consistently wins “first in class” and has done so in both mixed domestic and Euro shows along with one PCA show that I attended. Pretty happy about that, and I think most of the reason she wins is just because she is a 928 and so many people are taken back by the look, style and design. Does anyone else enter these shows with their 928s?

Another observation worth commenting on is the difference in crowds at these shows… when you are the Euro only car shows, it seems the owners and attendees are professional, white collar type folks, where the mainly domestic shows (where the Euros are the bastard step children) are full of folks that are mainly of the motorcycle club venue with armless shirts, tattoos, zz-top beards, etc… I am not placing one over the other, it is just a very interesting contrast as to those that seem to have an interest in the foreign cars and those who could care less.

Car shows scare me. I see so many parents just stand and watch as there kid puts there grimy hands all over everything.
It's not just kids I see adults scratch beautiful expensive paint with careless zippers and other metal bits on there clothes. I enjoy attending but I would be a wreck the whole time people walk around my car.

Yea, that's why I bring a fully charged taser with me.

Good to see others getting out to the shows. I bring my 928 to a local cruise night during the summers. No voting or anything but fun and good to see other car guys. It usually draws 100 - 200 cars.

I also bring it to PCA and other concours and it gets a ton of attention. Lots of people have had posters of it or remember it from popular movies.

I really don't care anymore if a kid touches it or someone leans up and looks through the glass as long as they don't physically damage it. I've learned that keeping a good distance from the car next to you helps keep people from accidentally bumping/scratching the mirrors or paint.

I have taken the GT and now the GTS to a couple of shows around here. Never a problem with people messing with either car, I think it helps that the shows are typically at 6:30 AM, which tends to bring out only the serious car guys who aren't going to sit on your hood, and also that mine is usually the cheapest car at the show, so I don't usually get many comments. In fact, there are only 2 instances where any attention was paid to either car- First was 2 weeks ago when I took the GTS to the local C&C for its first time, got a lot of compliments on the wheels. . The other was when I entered it in the PCA Huntington Beach concours in 2007 or 8 - Stuck out like a sore thumb amongst all the 911s, got a lot of nice comments.
