I have a quick question on removing / replacing the speed sensor on the passenger front. The bolt that holds the speed sensor is stripped, so I am going to have to get creative in its removal. In addition, I need to replace the bracket that holds the cylindrical wire harness thats held in the black plastic clam shell.
Will I need to remove the caliper / rotor to do this job, or can I get away with out removal. Also, in removing the caliper, do you have to pull the pads, or can you take it out as a single unit? As you can tell, this service item is forcing me to tackle things I have never done before :-) Thanks for the help!

I would imagine he means the Allen head bolt that holds it in.
Get the bolt extractor from sears, it grabs the outside of the head and will remove it.
You don't need to remove the caliper either.

To remove the speed sensor, you will have to remove the stripped bolt first - maybe vice-grips if it turns freely.
To remove the sensor, it will depend on whether it has corroded in place from salt on icy roads.
You may need to apply plenty of WD 40 or some form of rust breaker to release it. You may consider tapping the collar a little to see whether it will rotate in its pocket.
You can move the cylinderical connector out of the clam shell holder by removing the speed sensor and the RDK plugs and this should give you access to the holding bracket. You a mirror to view the securing connection.
If it won't move then you should consider removal of the disk to get a better access.
The calipers can be removed with with the pads in position as long as the pads are pressed back a little off the disks.
If you do this ensure that you hang up the caliper so it dose not hang on the brake line.

Tails,
unless that sensor has been out before that stripped bolt has blue loctite on it and won't come out with vice grips![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I twist it and pull up as I do, I have yet to find one that doesn't come out that way.

Dave,
By a stripped bolt do you mean the bolt threads have been stripped, the threads in the bolt hole are stripped or do you mean the hexigon head is rounded off?
If the threads are stripped then the bolt should be able to be turned as locktite is holding the threads in place, whether it is the bolt threads or the threads in the holt hole.
If the head of the bolt is rounded then I would suggest you get some bolt head - easy outs. They are like a socket but internally they have a reverse type cutter that will grip the head of the bolt. You can use a socket extension and "T" handle or whatever.
Bill Ball posted a picture of these bolt easy outs to remove a cam tower set bolt that the allen head inserted had been rounded, so if you search Bills Post you should find what I mean.
I recently removed all my speed sensors, cleaned them as well as the speed disk on the wheels, checked all the connectors and plugs and cleaned up the HF RDK transmitters and plugs. I had a fault on one of the speed sensors. Now no falts indicated.
