Next week I plan to lay out a sheet of plastic over my engine bay, tape it down, then use a high pressure sprayer to blast away the rotten foam. How did you do it?

then take a can of PB blaster and starting from the top spray down the remains of the adhesive , respray it a time or two and let the hood sit for about 30 mins. then take the scraper and the adhesive should come right off once the adhesive is off then take some wax and grease remover and clean the surface, it should be ready for the hood pad. Using hi pressure water will possibly cause other damage to car electrics and or foam particles will go everywhere especially into the cowl area.
I have done a few hood pads this way, and it works well,
Just my 2 cents

I would suggest that you do the plastic then take a bondo scraper and scrape off as much of the foam as you can, clean off the foam bits, from the plastic.

And I did the same thing last week, but I was really fortunate that the foam just fell off my just touching it. What was left I used some aircraft paint remover and a dull wood scraper and it all fell off. Just need to order hood from 928 Leather to finish it up.
