Default light cluster for my headliner - can't seem to find a decent adhesive...

adhesives.... i am looking for that sticky adhesive.....

i put together a rather stout light cluster. i hate being in the dark when i turn on my interior light...

i can get glues to mate to the big velcro strip i am attempting to use to attach the lights which are mounted on a vineer of plastic, (attempting to mount the LED cluster between my visors)...

but to the headliner it's a fiasco - nothing has worked. the vinyl of my headliner is very slippery to adhesives... they just don't stay on....

do any of you know WHERE i can locate an adhesive similar to that sticky, never-completely-drying stuff that you'll find under your rear seats when doing a seat delete ??

much thanks... Allan.

Where'd you get the array? Cost?

For adhesives you could try these linx. How much does the array weigh? Have you sanded the attachment points on the headliner? Construction adhesive?

the lights weigh about 5 ounces...

i ended up using velcro with adhesive backing... after scuffing the vinyl, it seems to have worked.

oh my God... why didn't i do this years ago ?? !!

i open the door and i'm greeted by the color of bright overcast daytime light inside the cabin... kind of weird, but i really like it. now i can detail the car inside the garage or out in the driveway at night without bringing in a shop light.

when you get out of the car and walk away, it's also weird. it's like daytime inside the car, like 5,000 k headlights are - instead of that ultra-dim yellow. it seems also, that because the LEDs spread the light around the way they do, i can still drive with them on at night without a problem. i still don't think i will though. this is really cool !

3m Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive...... after trying about 20 different products, some with catalysts some without,

this is the stuff that sticks like crazy to everything - including my headliner. 4 months now, and still sticking perfect.

Why would you want to do this...? why not fabricate something in plastic that attaches via the existing hole for the stock lamp without gluing anything to your headliner - that way its more easiily removable -without damaging your headliner... you will probably need to get to it again...

You could even adapt via the old lamp unit.

because my light cluster is gigantic. 200 individual leds. the fixture is light but not you'd be suprised how hard it was to keep it attached to the headliner with no issues. light's up the inside of the car A LOT when you open the door.

pics of the install. ok. i did this from the infield at Daytona this evening with my web cam. i'll never drive another car without installing a big-*** cluster on it again... sorry for my ugly head gettin' in there. btw, i can't believe how many people stopped to talk about my car.... and some took pictures.

here's an example of a light cluster you can use to build a larger cluster. also they make great emergency lights for your home.

if you ever get a chance to come to the 24 hours of Daytona, don't pass it up. freaking amazing.
