Falling on its face when cold

Sounds like lean mixture for its temp - check temp II sensor, assuming its ok when fully hot? Bit more objective info than 'falls on its face' would be useful. Does it idle OK? Does it stall when touching throttle cold, undriveable cold? If throttle is opened VERY slowly, gently, is it ok, or only up to a point, or not at all? Does the exhaust smell of gas at all, cold or hot, or look sooty? Does it take a long time to get to normal temp - ie longer than it used to? Has any work been done on it recently, even apparently unrelated to engine , fuel etc?

Have a look at this page: http://www.electronikrepair.com/page9.html
Temp2 can be diagnosed with your average multi meter if this is indeed it. Other thoughts are corrosion at the coil connections (distributor to coil leads). Also possible your MAF is bad and worth diagnosing. I used Injection Labs who offered to test mine for free (http://injectionlabs.com/contact.html).
We also have site sponsors that do the same (http://www.jdsporsche.com/faq.html)
Another common issue is a cracked Crank Position Sensor (CPS) connector that "connects" better when warm. This is located under the airbox and under/near the throttle pulley and fuel line "U".
Good luck and report back on what you find.
