RMB do or don't ?
Hi.
I'm in doubt if I should do a RMB.
On one side I think it sounds great. It makes me feel like I'm 20 years old again. But I'm 43 now
That's my first dilemma.
Also the S4 is a speedy car but the 320 BHP isn't that impressing as it was 20 years ago. I hate the prospect of a GTI outperforming my "look what I can do" loudy S4 on a sunday morning. I also like the "low key" approach of an S4.
Fairly to say I have a slight preference for a RMB becauseI think IT SOUNDS GREAT !!
Thanks, Paul

It sounds great on my 91 S4, and I've gotten many compliments. But like you, I sometimes wonder, if a more subtle approach wouldn't be better. My conclusion is that at some point I'll have to add sound dampening in various places - then it will be more subdued in the interior, and I can open the window when I want to hear it.

Hi Paul,
I have an x-pipe and an RMB and for me it's wayyy too loud. At idle it's a great sound, real head turner, but when stepping on the pedal....you will attract attention So I took mine off. You're welcome to try it if you want.

I'm Fiddy, I put x-pipe, sport cats, and RMB on my GTS Because the stock exhaust was way too quiet. I couldn't even hear it reving under and overpass with my window down. Cats aren't required here in Oklahoma, no emission testing, I put 'em on specifically for the sound. Fooey on what anyone else thinks, I like it!
I do however get lots of complements on how it sounds and no one ever tells me it's too loud. Probably helps because most of the people I hang with like cars. My 70 year old brother just got his self a new Mustang GT 500. His wife told me she thinks my car sounds really good. My next door neighbor says he can hear me come and go, but it ain't obnoxiously loud like half the pickup trucks in the hood. Almost everywhere I stop, convenience store, grocery store, etc. I get complements on the car. They always wait for me to start it up and drive off, when I look back they are smiling real big.
The only time I ever think it's too loud is when those clamp joint cloth things on the cats start leaking.

I understand what the RMB does. Simply removing the rear muffler. Great ROARRRR but no exta performance...
What kind of sound/performance gain would I expect with the X pipe modification ?
If selling, please PM me a price for consideration.
Thanks, Paul

The X-pipe as a replacement for the stock catalytic converter will give you a few extra HP, maybe 20 at most - probably less if you need to put aftermarket cats on. The sound will be better that stock and not too loud.
I personally like the sound of the stock exhaust with the RMB over the X-pipe, but the performance is better with the X-pipe. I agree that the X-pipe with the RMB is too loud for daily driving. I sometimes put my RMB on for fun, but it gets old quickly and my neighbors tell me about it.

I'm 44 and just bought an RMB, haven't put it on yet to replace rear muffler. Nothing wrong with acting a little younger I'm looking forward to a little more rumble! Go for it!....

How many other products of any kind can do that?
I was talking to my dad, now 80 who had been into drag raciing, and told him I had just done something that would make him feel young again.
He asked, "what did you do, start taking viagra?"
I am often encouraged at the DE events seeing 70+ yr old guys still flogging their cars around the track.
do what you can to keep feeling young.
