Default Anyone interested Mocha/Pascha Euro?

Offered in an estate sale locally. Advertised as a 1978, but the vin indicates 1980. He bought it when he was in Germany and brought it over when he came back.

====================================
.........PRE-1981 928
*************************************************
VIN : 928102506
MODEL : 928
YEAR : 1980
ENGINE : 4.7LTR [EURO]
BODY : COUPE
SERIAL : 506

That the vin in the window.

It's mocha exterior, tan/pascha interior. Both the interior and exterior are in excellent condition. There is very minimal wear on the driver's seat bolster.

No sunroof, no rubstrips.

5-speed.

Kilometers work out to about 85k miles. He parked it in his garage 4 years or so and hasn't started it since. He said it ran great and had no issues when he parked it (wonder why he parked it then?). I should have taken a battery jump box so I could hear it running, but didn't think ahead.

I have a few pictures, but none of the exterior since the lighting wasn't great in his garage, light enough to check out the paint/body but too dark to get good pictures with my phone.

He's asking $5k for it and his estate sale is Fri/Sat only and he said it's still for sale after that if not sold this weekend. I think he's an antique dealer, so I'm not sure how set he'd be on that price.

IMHO, it's an outstanding example, without being able to comment on the mechanicals of it.

If anyone is seriously interested, I can have him get some good pictures of it and get more info on the history, etc.

Is it me, or is it not typical to be able to talk with the person whose items are being sold in an estate sale?

Estate sale usually means the previous owner is no longer with us. In practice estate sales vary from professionals who do one or two a month, to kinda messy things run by family, either case good information and contact can be rare.

That's what I thought, which is why I was surprised that Brett's post seemed to indicate that he was talking with the owner who originally bought the car in Germany. Maybe I'm just misreading this and "he" means multiple different people (estate sale organizer person, dearly departed, etc).

Copy Erik N, loud and clear... whats up with these pictures? Bret PM sent. Before I get too excited I am going to need help in checking her out. Big thing is if she runs. Next, paint might be good but is it a respray? That Vin looks wrong to me anyone care to input? It is Friday so lets see what happens today and tomorrow hopefully it does not sell so we can take a better calmer look at it... I am also looking at a few others, one 79 around the same price, but it will need paint, very low miles though and excellent Pasha interior. The other a Euro 78 but price is way up there, and there is a silver, one owner that just came up, but they want too much for it. Well at least too much for me!... kinda off good my other car did not sell it forces me to analyze a bit more.

The dash vin is definitely missing a digit. The vin on the door is 9288102506 and that also mentions it being built in 1978, as you see in the picture below.

I gave the car a once over in the light and I have to say, cosmetically, it's a very nice car. Other than a few spots which I'll mention in a minute, most issues on the body/paint could be buffed out. There are a couple small spots around the hatch that have chipped paint and a little surface rust. There are a also a few spots on the hood that have been scratched and touched up. No dents, and as mentioned before, no sunroof or rub strips (were they even available in 78?).

The interior, other than smelling musty from sitting for 4 years, is fantastic. I love the tan leather. The lower part of the doors would look better in black to tie in with the pascha seats, but that's just my opinion. All leather is in great shape, including the headliner and rear quarters in the hatch. The pascha parts of the seats, front and rear, and all carpet are a little dirty, but are in otherwise great shape.

He said he wouldn't start it up after sitting for so long without changing all fluids, which I can understand. But, he does not want to spend the money to do that unless a sale is guaranteed! He does say that mechanically, the car needed nothing when he parked it, everything should be in working order. He did not keep maintenance/repair records though.

Also, in the pictures, the paint looks dull, but it's just a thin layer of dust on the car, it's actually pretty glossy.

Ah, the plate says '03. Methinks it's been sitting a little longer than he recalls, from the end of 03 to now would be 6+ years at the very least, unless his sticker has fallen off the plate, which is possible.

I doubt if it will sell at an estate sale, big ticket items rarely do, but hard to say how the price might go. Any idea if this person is the owner or just a middle man handling the estate sale?

Plus side
It seems very nice for a 78, garage kept etc. Indiana won't have a lot of local buyers, so price could be fairly low.

Minus side
78 is a CIS car, and they don't respond well to being parked for years. Pre starting flushing all the fluids etc won't be a trivial cost, especially if the fuel tank is dropped and really flushed out as it should be. Post flushing it may start and run well, then degrade is stuff that didn't come out with the flush starts coming loose. Personally if I was buying I would want to do all the pre start myself, checking coolant PH etc, and would prefer buying cheaper as is. Some of the leather is starting to pull up, and while its not bad now, it will get worse.

More than $3k all things considered and in as is condition would be generous, still a very tempting car if price etc. could be worked out.

It is a Euro, so don't even think about registering in some states, ie Calif.
