We talked about the clear bra, and that is all and good on a new or well kept paint, but I still wonder if the original material bras give better protection. With that said, I was wondering if these are a special order items from the Porsche upholstery guys or does one of the 928 part distributers have them in stock. I would be looking for 78/79 cut once I get my 928.

I believe Specialist and International have them. 928rUs may also have them. I bought one last year and it was the best decision I ever made. No new chips since I started using it and I've had several long trips including a recent trip to Long Island and back (500 miles). Get the mirror covers too. Should be about $130 for everything IIRC.
I do use blue painters tape behind each of the tires to prevent chips. I also use it on the unprotected areas of the mirror.

I looked on google for the early 78/79 before the front spoiler, but I could not find any, Thats why I asked. 928 international has them, but for the spoiler front, in fact all the ones that I found had spoiler front. So I thought if someone might know they can give me a lead of where to look. I will ask the Leather Shop, and Roger tomorrow see if they make them for the early cars...

The Bra without front spoiler is PNA 503 928 03 and is currently not available from Porsche.
We do have the 04 which is with spoiler for $114.
I will ask at CoverCraft if they have the pattern from Colgan for the no spoiler type.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

You are correct but only if used incorrectly...... I used them for many years w/o any damage to paint on several different 928s. You MUST make sure the underside of the mask is clean and of course the paint must be clean. People get into trouble when they install them on a dirty car or leave them on too long in all kinds of weather. As an added measure of safety I used to put blue tape on the edges where it could possibly rub during driving. They're not a bad thing if used properly.

Agree with Chuck, I haven't introduced any swirls, marring or scratches. I also use blue painters tape near the wheel wells (in front of front wheels) to prevent the tabs from scratching.
