Glad you gotterdone. -But, anytime you use a pipe taper plug, especially in anything cast, DO NOT use any teflon tape or dope. The friction reduction can easily crack anything short of diamond.
If you want the best sealant I have ever used on any water system try this stuff: https://www.grainger.com/product/20C...180503021430:s
I don't use it on flat flange gaskets however.

Id like to report that the 12×1.5 longer bolt that I installed 2010 remains in the car and does not leak. As a matter of fact until I saw this thread I completely forgotten that I actually had that problem

I drained/flushed coolant last March and did not reinstall the bolt with sealant. I seem to remember replacing the crush gasket thought, but may be remembering incorrectly

This just happened to me. I pulled the drains whilst doing spring cleaning of coolant, oil, new front engine harness. Plugs came out like they always have. Went to put them back in, driver's side is perfect. Passenger side by the ground strap, oh crap, not getting tighter. Used the longer bolt from napa (part number 7041911 m12x1.5x18). Chased the threads with a tap. Put the bolt in with Permatex High Temp High Performance thread sealant. Tightened to 18 ftlbs. I Always use a torque wrench when I work on this car for everything that has a torque value. New crush washer as well. Should be good. If not, JB weld it is. I am not about the pull the exhaust manifold, use a right angle drill and put in a time sert. Return vs reward isn't there.
passenger side. I always put torque values in areas by the bolts so I don't have to look them up.
