86.5 Engine Height – Need expert opinions
Hi all,
Can anyone tell me what is normal for an 86.5?
I have nothing to reference this to as my only 928 experience is with mine and the 82 is completely different.
Does this look normal or is it too low?
Passenger side
Drivers side
Passenger side 1/2 to 5/8 inch
Drivers side 1/2 to 5/8 inch
Passenger side
Drivers side
Thanks in advance for all comments.

Good timing on this thread. I'm also trying to figure out if my engine is too low on my 86.5. Bottom of oil pan is about like yours, 1/4 or so below the crossmember. Have about 3/8-1/2" between engine and crossmember. There's one shot of your hooks (EH7.jpg), where your hooks look farther apart than mine. My mounts have been in for 5 months and I think are making noise, but the engine rocks nicely when reved.

thats right where it should be, if you had brand new solid mounts with the 3mm stack of fender washers it may be a MM or two higher.
but this is where the pan needs to be just about flush with the cross member.
BTW dont bother trying to measure from the top brace as some times the side mounts of the brackets are bent and will change the relationship

the only other thing to look at is if the pan is rubbing on the cross member.
OR the exhausts bellows are rubbing on the side braces this is where the problems occur as well as leaking of hot air due to the TT dropping and letting the air in from under the car and it comes up through the shifter

Looks like the bottom of his oil pan is more than 1/4" below the crossmember. Mine is right at 1/4".
My exhaust bellows is about a 1/4" from the side brace on the passenger side and even further on the driver's side.
I am getting the hot air around the shifter.

Thanks guys.
Here’s the thing, those are new solid mounts (no washer spacers) that I just put in. The engine hasn’t been started yet (fuel lines first) in fact the car is still on stands. My concern is if the mounts could be some of the bad ones and if they will settle more. If they stay where they’re at I’ll probably be fine, but should I trust them or change them?
P.S.
Mrmerlin, there is about 3/8 or a little more between the pan and the cross member.
