Looking for a cheap 21 mm spark plug wrench.

My deep sockets were too thick to fit in the hole. Harbor Freight doesn’t carry a 21mm and really not much on eBay or Amazon..

Anyone, know if this will fit?

Kurt,

buy a cheap-o socket and take it to a bench grinder and grind it down. I do have a tool set I got from costco as an emergency set (Made by Crescent). It has a spark plug socket that fits without grinding. Set was $100 ($80 with coupon).

Use the one in the Tool Kit in the rear.

Kurt--

Plugs are 13/16". H-F sells a set of four plug sockets sizes in swivel-head (5/8" - 3/4" - 13/16" - 7/8") for about $10, and the 13/16" fits in the S4 covers OK. Got it to do James' car (16V) which is a little more forgiving on size, but it fits the S4 too.

For the S4, I have a H-F tool that has a permanently-attached extension on a slight swivel. It's a perfect fit in the plug holse. I haven't seen them lately at the stores through. It's perfrct becuas it never leaves the socket in the cover on removal.

Thanks for the suggestions… that should do it.

I was wondering if those ‘standard’ spark plug sockets at HF freight would be good enough. They don’t carry any metric spark plug tools.

If I had the tool in the rear compartment, I would have used it… ended up borrowing one from Brett’s car to get them out.

I wanted to have something in my tool box to use and only have fairly expensive craftsman deep sockets not worth trashing.

If this doesn’t fit… I’ll grind on it:

OTOH using a quality tool to make a new version isnt such a bad idea as they will probably be stronger than a cheapo socket thats been heated and cut only to shatter due to junk steel

Kurt,
I have an elcheapo socket in my hand as we speak that fit without any mods...changed all my plugs a couple of months ago. The cheapos are a bit thiner in construction I assume.

FYI use a 13\16 socket...works fine on our plugs and fits in the hole on the cam cover.

Nope, that's it... going to put the whole car back together with used spark plugs and 13/16 bolts.
