Steering issues again... possibly the rack or inner tie rod?
Well I have rebuilt 2 different PS pumps and flushed the system twice. The steering feels fine and the pump is working but when I turn right somewhat aggressively it seems to lock for a second and then return to normal. Is my rack shot or is this maybe a inner tie rod issue?
Thanks as usual

This would not be a function of the tie rod ball joints. My guess it's either a belt, pump or rack issue.
BTW, when kind of fluid are you using? Remember our cars use Trans fluid, not power steering fluid.

One more thought...
There is an integrated filter in the reservoir. If that is clogged, it could starve the system giving that feeling. Something to consider.

I too am having the same problem. Mine occurred a couple times while in a parking lot (slow speed) while turning into/out of a parking space and articulating the wheels (to the right). It locked for a brief moment. As my arm strength compensated it complied, but was seemingly stuck. My tie rod boots are degraded badly.
I don't know if it's related or not, but I also have a popping sound sometimes when I am pulling out of the garage (traveling forward) and encounter the elevated driveway surface. Again, don't know if it's related.
Don't mean to steal the thread...just wanting to find a solution to, what sounds to be, the same scenario.
Thanks,

only had it happen once but seems like what happened to me the other day
it was as if the PAS just stopped wotking then, came back to life
not that it feels like it has much assistance at the best of times

Not a 928 but the symptoms of intermittent loss of assistance (when turning in one direction) sound just like the problem of sticking relief valve in rack of my wife's car. Needed new rack.

Sounds like the rack is binding internally. Could be the pin that keeps the rack lined up inside.

I just had this problem too. However I determined it to be that the pinch bolt in the lower universal joint which attaches to the top of the rack was interfering with the exhaust manifold.
I used a file and flattened the head slightly and then raised the motor slightly (collapsed mounts) and used a homebrew mount to hold the motor slightly higher. Problem solved and will never come back.
