How about the 928S4 logo on rearbumper ?
Hi.
My car ('90 S4 european version) doesn't have the 928S4 text embedded on the rear bumper, it only says PORSCHE.
I see pictures of cars where also 928S4 is embedded. Is this engraved like the PORSCHE letters or is it a sticker ? Was it a factory option to delete it ?
Who can solve this mistery for me ?
Thanks.
Paul

It was a decal that was typically added at the factory. There was also an option to have it deleted.

928s4 logo are sticker letters. If you want them "Nicole" and her website hookedoncars.com may carry them.
Yes, logo delete was a factory option. Would be listed on your option codes.

Hi Paul,
I've never seen '928S4' engraved like the 'Porsche' letters. However, there are two known versions of the S4 letters: As sticker and as raised letters. Both available from Nicole here:

When you ordered a new 928, you could as nearly everything - so there have been cars without logo.
On my '91 they are raised, so I assume, the raised ones came in the later MYs.
Cheers
Marc

Please allow me to clarify a few things:
Originally, the 928 S4 was delivered with "engraved" PORSCHE letters and vinyl decals that said "928S4". The PORSCHE letters had no decals inside, and were not very visible. The "928S4" vinyl letters could be deleted from the factory.
928 GT models had embossed style lettering from the factory, which you can order from your favorite 928 parts supplier unfinished (primed) and paint to match your car.
I offer an alternative lettering style that is 3-Dimensional. It is made of non-yellowing polyurethane, and has a very strong adhesive backing - basically the same as 3M trim tape.
Kits are available to fill the engraved PORSCHE letters in the rear bumper, and to replace the original 928S4 lettering with the matching style.
Alternatively, you can order individual letters in Porsche Script style, as shown on the blue car by "No_Substitute"
All letters are available in the following standard colors:
black
silver nickel
red
We can custom order them in a variety of other colors/looks, such as:
white
yellow
blue
green
billet (brushed aluminum look)
steel flex (brushed steel look)
carbon (carbon weave)
Custom orders take about 4 weeks these days.
Prices for these kits will increase on May 1, 2010.

I didn't know that you can realize individual lettering... That's a cool idea!

I wanted to modernize my S4 by using the Porsche script... and also went with the fake GTS strip with raised PORSCHE letters for more visibility. As Nicole pointed out, the embossed (aka 'engraved') letters are really difficult to see... especially on a white car.
