Great job finding the NAPA part - but they don't have stores in Australia, and when I tried their on-line store, it doesn't allow for shipping to Oz.
Maybe I can get them from a Nissan dealer.
Does anybody have the model of Nissan that they are supposed to fit?

Hi Sendarius
I use a company in the US called "Shipito" which basically forwards your mail giving you a US address. Easy to use, they add about $10 per package but give you up to 10 different shipping methods. You chose your level of urgency and cost.
I have had TNT deliveries in 3 days!

If you had included the car info (model year, etc.) I could have given you the correct wire colors for the 928 harness...
- Take the socket out so you can see the filaments.
- Clip the wires to the 928 socket.
- Use a jumper (alligator clips on the end of a wire) to connect the black wire to the ground strap.
- Turn the parking lights on.
- The brown wire on the 928 harness is ground.
- Touch one of the colored wires (black or yellow to one of the colored wires on the new socket, and see which filament lights. You want the dimmer of the two filaments to light. If neither filament lights, try the other colored wire from the harness.
- When you find the wire combo that causes the dimmer filament to light, splice those wires.
- The other combo should cause the brighter filament to light when the brake lights are used.

I'm doing this job now on my 88. These sockets are available from other manufacturers at other auto parts stores as well. In Houston, we have a chain called O'Reily's and they were able to get the sockets to the store in just a few hours. I just told them early 2000 Mercury Villager/Nissan Quest. They were cheaper than NAPA and I didn't have to pay ridiculous shipping charges.
Also, you can use the double contact sockets for single contact bulbs. The single contact bulb makes contact with both of the elements, so just contact both wires to the power lead. Might confuse some future owners, but hey, we're keeping these cars forever right?

Looks like the work around is well covered.
Think there would be enough demand for something like the front wiring harnesses
to get a quote from this business? Don't know what their minimums are.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Take the socket and bulb to a car with a battery, or use a battery charger, etc., to determine which is the brake filament, which the tail light filament and the ground connection.
On the '87, the stop light wire should be black/red, the tail light wire should be gray/blue, and ground is brown. These are the colors for the wire harness to the light unit - the colors obviously change on the light unit harness itself, and those colors are not shown on the wiring diagrams.
You can check which wire goes to which contact on the bulb, and wire the replacement socket the same way. Otherwise, you may have to wait until you have battery power to the lights.
