Car's looking pretty good I'd say. One more thing to check is the tightness of steering.

Arrrrgh. Inspector is lifting by the "frame rails" rather than the lift points in front.

LOL Exactly what I was going to say.. ARRGH!

Other than that, Looks to be in very nice condition interior wise. At least it didn't seen to spend its life baking in the hotsun. Looks like it was driven in the Jersey salt / snow with all the rust on the suspension links and gas tank strap/fuel pump cover.

Other than that, you have have good looking paint, 90% good interior, some options (rear aux AC), Get a PPI on it. Check that endplay # like someone else said, Even things like compression and check for leaks, fuel lines etc. But overall looks like a good starting point (Better than mine LOL).

Good luck !

Like Bill said: "Hard to say much more other than the frame rails looks surprisingly undamaged (from incorrect jacking).".

But why didn't this guy who did the inspection use the lift points HE IS ON THE FRAME RAIL !!!

edit: I see someone eles noticed it too..

I think the motor mounts look fine. I think the underside looks great. I think the interior is exceptional for that many miles and especially with the lack of cracks in the dash. I think I would try to buy this car for $7500; and then I would go there and drive it home as fast as I thought I could get away with.

Geez Jerry, you tryin' to steal that car or what?! $7500 (if PPI comes out fine) would be a steal on an '89 S4!

If $8900 is asking, that probably is a good price if you are there with the car. Then again, that is asking and has to suggest that the selling price is something less. It is foolhardy in almost all cases not to try to find the actual selling price. Then there is the shipping or time and travel to get it from far away. That's why I said I would try to buy it for $7500. Chances are good that it will sell for something in between, and probably closer to $7500 the to $8900, especially since that many miles on the usual car translates to extremely high and therefore a big discount. I do not consider it stealing--rather good business and fair negotiations. There is no rule that says one needs to adjust for they other guy's low estimate of the value of his car.

Jerry,

You are mighty sensitive these days man... just messing with you! I'd F*ing STEAL the car if I thought I could! NEVER walk up and hand them the asking price! If you don't ask for a good deal you certainly won't get one! I don't think that is a bad price though, all said...

Without a doubt....Bill is a 928 EXPERT....especially in automatic 89's....he has personally driven his more than 140k miles.....many of those BOOSTED or open road racing....

My thoughts are it looks okay.....underside is dry (biggie)....but I also was concerned about rust....I also think PPI including thrust bearing check, compression and leakdown is money well spent on ANY 928... If the inspection comes back clean then $8900 is not a bad price...

Looks like it was driven during the winters in NJ, no other explanation for all the rust underneath.

Other than what you have mentioned, has it had a Water Pump/Timing Belt, A/C Work, Top End Refresh and new fuel lines? If not the price is too high IMHO. Otherwise it looks good if the maintenance is up to date and the price is right on.
