Default Headlight upgrade question

I have a pair of 7" E code H4 headights in my '84 and though I can find many threads about how much better the H4 8" headlights are, over the H5 version, I am wondering if going to the later style H5 (9004) 8" headlights would be an upgrade or a downgrade from my current set up.

Has anyone experienced both?

I really prefer the look of the larger lens assembly, but don't want to step down in lighting. I am considering this because you can get a pretty good deal on the H5 8" lenses, much cheaper than the E code version.

Going from any H4 to an H5 is a downgrade. The H5 light pattern is scattered all over the place. The H4 is focused better, has a distinct cutoff and is the better lighting option.

Keep the 7" H4's the lighting pattern cuts off like a knife, the H5's just sort of throw a blob of glowing light!!
Upgrade to HID's in the 7" H4's like I did. OMG yo will like it!!

I also like the look of the 8" but the improvement is cosmetic and the cost........Ouch

I have always upgraded my cars to E code lighting whenever possible, I guess I will have to wait for a good deal on H4 8" lights.

anyone want to let go of a pair for less than 300 bucks?
